Selected Prints from the Atlanta Printmakers Studio
The Atlanta Printmakers Studio (APS) was started in 2005 by a small group of dedicated Atlanta artists/printmakers who wanted "to promote the fine art of printmaking by offering access to a well equipped studio and diverse educational programs that foster the development of printmkaing as a vibrant and progressive art form." Now with more than 150 members, numerous outreach programs, and a variety of classes and workshops, the Atlanta Printmakers Studio has become a major force in promoting printmaking as a serious and exciting contemporary art form.
For this exhibition, I have invited twenty-six artists from the APS membership to represent the quality and diversity of printmaking fostered by this studio program. They work in a number of printmaking methods including woodcuts, linoleum cuts, lithography, screen prints, monotypes, and a plethora of new mixed media techniques. Although created as multiples, a fine art print is considered an original because the artist both conceived and had a direct hand in the production of the print. Small editions are preferable for fine prints and each print is numbered sequentially by hand as it is printed.

Sport
More than any other time of the year, summer and early fall are immersed in activity, motion, and sport. Swimming at the pool, going to baseball games, running in the park, hitting the beach, and tailgating are all familiar parts of this American season. Inspired by all of the action, this exhibition spotlights contemporary artists who are exploring ideas of sport and athleticism in their artwork. Photographers Jerry Siegel and Rob Matre both seem to capture the fundamental purity of the game while Vincent Laforet and Walter Iooss show the more seductive and glamorous side. Preston Snyder and Ruth Franklin's paintings of boxing and mixed martial arts evoke both the rawness and the elegance of these sports. Mark Boomershine's vintage racecars literally roar off the canvas while Jason Jornmeyer quietly contemplates the gracefulness of polo. The sporting life conjures notions of drama, fantasy, romance, pain, endurance and pleasure - all fertile ground for artist exploration.
